Ecotoxicity of Chloramphenicol and Hg Acting on the Root Elongation of Crops in North China

چکیده
Single and joint toxicity of chloramphenicol and Hg acting on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L.) and corn (Zea mays L.) were investigated. The results showed positive correlations between root elongation inhibition of three plants and concentrations of pollutants added to soil (P<0.01) in test concentration range. In terms of root elongation, wheat was the most sensitive to toxicity of chloramphenicol with an IC50 (concentration when 50% plants show inhibition) value as high as 26.8 mg/kg and also was the most sensitive one to the toxicity of Hg with the IC50 value as high as 300.8 mg/ kg. The toxicity of chloramphenicol to the plants is stronger than that of Hg. Chloramphenicol and Hg had an antagonistic effect on the inhibition of root elongation of the three plants when the concentration of added Hg reached 30 mg/kg. Chloramphenicol and Hg had significantly synergistic effects on the inhibition of root elongation when Hg concentration was up to 200 mg/kg (P<0.05).

Characteristics of water consumption in water-saving winter wheat and effects on the utilization of subsequent summer rainfall in the North China Plain
Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grows in dry season but summer maize (Zea mays L.) coincides with rainfall in the North China Plain (NCP). Increasing rainfall use efficiency and harmonizing its utilization between the two species is an effective way to mitigate impact on groundwater deriving from wheat irrigation. One to four times water supply (W1, to W4) were employed in wheat, three wate...
متن کاملLight distribution in Chinese solar greenhouse and its effect on plant growth
Chinese solar greenhouse (CSG) is universally applied in northern China for producing horticultural products. CSG is characterized by the unbalanced structures with an arched front roof face to the south side and a thick wall as well as back roof in the north side. Such structures affect light distribution in the greenhouse. This study aims to investigate the light distribution properties in CS...
متن کاملImpact of spatial-temporal variations of climatic variables on summer maize yield in North China Plain
Summer maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the dominant crops in the North China Plain (NCP). Its growth is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal variation of climatic variables, especially solar radiation, temperature and rainfall. The WOFOST (version 7.1) model was applied to evaluate the impact of climatic variability on summer maize yields using historical meteorological data from 1961 to 20...

Allelopathic effects of aqueous extract of rhizomes of Cynodon dactylon L. were studied on seed germination and seedling growth of three legume crops (Phaseolus vulgaris L., Pisum sativum L., and Vicia faba L.), three Labiatae species (Thymus vulgaris L., Melissa officinalis L., and Mentha spicata L.), and two species of Poaceae (Avena fatua L., Sorghum halepense L.). Seed germination of all L...

UV-B radiation affects crop plants. Growing interest has been shown in studying the effectsof UV-B radiation exclusion on crops since 1993. This article summarized the generalconsequences of UV-B radiation exclusion on crop plants from the aspacts of plant morphology, growth and development. UV-B exlusion has promoting effects on plant height, internodeand leaf size. UV-B exclusion increases roo...
